<aside> 👋🏼 Welcome to the CLEAR Lab! Our NIH-funded team of clinician-scientists (Clinical Psychology PhD, MD/PhD) is working to advance a precision reproductive psychiatry that moves beyond rigid diagnostic categories to better understand how hormonal changes impact well-being. ****We have developed the Dimensional Affective Sensitivity to Hormones (DASH) framework, a transdiagnostic model that encourages us to consider how distinct hormonal sensitivities—such as atypical reactions to neurosteroid surges (e.g., allopregnanolone) or estradiol withdrawal—might trigger uniquely-timed cyclical symptom patterns. Our research is also powered by innovative computational tools like Phase-Aligned Cycle Time Scaling (PACTS), which we created to more accurately align hormonal and symptom dynamics across the menstrual cycle. By combining these precise methods with experimental hormone manipulations, we can ask targeted questions about how the cycle affects individuals, when, in what ways, and through what underlying mechanisms. Our goal is to understand and clearly describe these cyclical hormone sensitivities, ultimately translating our discoveries into personalized interventions that are matched to a patient’s specific biology.
